Why Ownership% is an FPL manager's most important metric

What is risk? Financial risk is the possibility that shareholders or other financial stakeholders will lose money when they invest in a company. In the same way managers will invest in players. Most gambles (investing in low ownership% players) don't pay off and you will most likely spend time and take hits to try and remodel your lineup come GW3.

Collective FPL knowledge behaves much like stockmarket psychology. Think about the last player you either bought or sold. What prompted that decision? Was it thorough analysis of historical data or did we simply follow the herd?

Harry Maguire was the 13th higherst scoring defender LY, and yet he is the second most owned defender in the entire game. Why? EMOTIONS!

FPL is not a rabbit race and we need to avoid losing our rational selves when building our teams. If your squad is built of players with high ownership% you will most likely perform around the average of the GW score. However if you subsequently perform at the average your overall rank will keep rising. Why? The Power of the Average Score:

The graph below shows accumulated scores over time with the fat line highlighting consitently average scores.

Stick to your strategy, avoid panic transfers and for god's sake do not own Harry.
